Why Excess Energy Yesterday Means Speed up My Metabolism Today

Over recent years I’ve been living dangerously, feeding my body any food it wanted regardless of its calorie count.

Calories are simply units of measure. They measure energy and I’ve dallied with these evil calories at a cost.

It’s important to highlight this, because my body, despite its vast intelligence does not really do a very intelligent job of distinguishing good energy from bad. To be blunt it doesn’t care about where energy comes from.

Let’s explore this a little more, because it’s very important to the overall understanding of why I now find myself needing to speed up my metabolism.

In my choice-laden grocery store I have been fairly clear about what’s good food, and what’s bad food. For example, a plum is a healthy source of energy, and something else (like a tub of ice cream) is an unhealthy source of energy. It tastes great but not many people eat a tub of ice cream a day, for obvious reasons.

So what has being able to speed up my metabolism to do with calories and energy? It sounds strange but my body really doesn’t care. To my body, energy is energy. It taken whatever it’s been given and hasn’t really known that some foods are healthier than others. It’s like a garbage disposal taking what you put down it, whether or not you should.

So how does this relate to my body, and its recent weight gain? On receiving a calorie (a label for energy), it must do something with that energy. If a plum delivers 100 calories to the body, my body has to accept those 100 calories. The same goes for 500 calories from a (small) tub of ice cream. Those 500 calories have to be dealt with.

Now, what did my body do with this energy? It used the energy (calories) to either create cells or to break down cells. Both are metabolic processes and one has been occurring more frequently then the other. When there was an excess of energy (quite often), and my body couldn’t use this energy to deal with any needs at the time, it was forced to create cells with that extra energy. It had to.

And those extra cells?
Yes, you guessed it, my added weight and the reason I am about to speed up my metabolism to shed this unwanted fat located largely around my stomach!
