Why Raise Your Metabolism in Order to Lose Weight?

Metabolism is a process that converts food into energy. When metabolism creates cells, it’s called anabolism.

When it breaks cells down, it’s called catabolism.

When the body gets too many calories from the food we eat it can only do two things. It can see if you have any energy needs if for example you’re running a marathon at the time (a great way to raise your metabolism). Or, more often, it will have to store those calories.

When there is any excess energy, and the body can’t use this to deal with any needs at the time, it will be forced to create cells with this extra energy. It has to. It has no choice. And unless you have lean muscle that gobble up this excess energy (and most of us don’t), these cells will appear as fat – your excess tummy, love handles or whatever you call it.

Once created, fat cells are with us for life but these fat cells can be shrunk. So even if the total number of fat cells in your body remains the same, the size of these cells, their appearance and the percentage of these in your overall weight can be reduced.

There was a time in this world when the need to lose weight was completely unheard of. You ate well, but worked well too. This work was mostly physical labor. People worked on fields digging, sowing, harvesting. Their metabolism processes creating and breaking down cells were better balanced. Living in those times meant that you rarely gained unhealthy weight or needed to consciously raise your metabolism.

But life styles have changed and most of us have sedentary jobs that demand little or no exercise at all today. Weight gain has become a major concern for many of us.

If you are trying to lose weight, it’s important to experience the metabolic process called catabolism. That is, it’s important to convert food into energy used to break cells down. Catabolism is also important because it prevents excess energy from being stored by the body. To break down fats cells in your body you will need to raise your metabolism. You can do this using various techniques, tips, and strategies and adding metabolism-boosting foods to your regular eating menu.
